LWN で知った記事だが、Linspire、SIPphone、MP3.com、そして MP3tunes といろんな分野に旺盛に首を突っ込む Michael Robertson のインタビューが Red Herring に載っていた。
彼の場合、そのバイタリティーには敬服するが、ちょっと山師的なところもあって警戒してしまうのだが、このインタビューはそれも込みの調子の良い口調が楽しい。
例えばデスクトップ Linux の話題で esr の妥協の勧めとの親和性を聞かれ、
Well, I think Eric has that same pragmatic view that we have: that unless you can make Flash and Windows Media and MP3 play on Linux, if you can’t do that, the Linux is a second-class citizen and it will never get widespread adoption.
エリックも同じ現実的な見方をしてるんだと思うよ。Linux で Flash や MP3 が利用できなきゃ、Linux はいつまでたっても二級市民だよってか。
Skype について聞かれても澱みない。
I admire what Skype has done in bringing PC voice to the masses, but Skype is simply an Apple; it’s a monopoly, you know. Skype is the Apple II phenomena. It will eventually go away, they’ll be overrun by the open systems like SIP.
Skype は VoIP をマスに広めたのは素晴らしいんだけど、結局 Skype って Apple じゃん。つまり、独占ってこと。いずれは SIP みたいなオープンシステムに取って替わられるって、という感じか。
いや、Skype に関して言えば、SIP は勝てないと思うよ(笑)
それはともかく DRM 抜きでやっているのは偉いね。
